Yun Liu graduated from the Xian Jiaotong University, China with her BSc, MSc and PhD. She has since held a position at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Kyushu, Japan (1998-2001) before the commencement of her Postdoctoral Fellow position at the Research School of Chemistry in 2001.
She was awarded fellowships of the AIST (1998-1999), the Science and Technology Agency (1999-2001, now renamed as the Fellow of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) and the Australian Research Council (ARC) Queen Elisabeth II (2006-2010). She was made a fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics (FAIP) and Certified Materials professional (CMP). She was also a member of the Materials of Australia (MMA) and the Society of Crystallographers in Australia and New Zealand (MSCANZ). She was promoted to a senior position at the Research School of Chemistry in 2007.
