My computer
is located on-campus but when I try to access CHEMWATCH I get
a message telling me that I am not authorized.
You may need to check your computer's network
setup. The CHEMWATCH servers perform a DNS check on computers
that are trying to access them. If your computer does not identify
correctly as being part of the ANU then it will be rejected.
You (Or ask your LITSS - nicely! Find yours HERE)
will need to check the TCP/IP settings of your computer
to make sure they are correct. Also make sure that your computer
is correctly registered with the ANU's DNS servers. Information
concerning DNS at ANU can be found HERE.
PLEASE NOTE: This version of Chemwatch does not support Virtual
Private Networks (VPNs). Since this version is for Department
of Chemistry use only then VPN access will not be created. Non
Chemistry users should contact DOI regarding access.
My previous Chemwatch bookmark does not
work. Is it still possible to create a bookmark to that will
work?
The correct page to bookmark is chemwatch_direct.html
. This page will allow you to access the latest version of Chemwatch
but will also allow you to select a different server in case
the default one does not work. This page will also keep you
up-to-date with the status of Chemwatch including which browsers
are OK to use.
I am
trying to access CHEMWATCH from a computer in a computer lab but for
some reason the page will not load.
Please contact DOI regarding computer lab access.
I am trying to access
CHEMWATCH from my Macintosh using Netscape version 4.xx. Sometimes the
page will load but usually it will either partially load or not at all.
You need to be using the latest version of either Netscape,
Firefox or Internat Explorer for your computer. Basically you
can assume that the latest version of CHEMWATCH will not work
under Mac Classic.
Can I access CHEMWATCH via
my dial-up connection?
No. Only computers that are located on-campus, or few that dial-in
via campus remote access servers, can have access to this version
of CHEMWATCH. Since you are most likely dialling up via a private
ISP, your computer will not be identified as being part of the
ANU network and will be rejected by our servers. We are
not allowed to provide Chemwatch access to computers outside
the ANU.
