How to setup Eudora 3 for University e-mail.

This document explains how to setup Eudora version 3 (Win) to check University E-mail. Some of these instructions will also apply to later versions of Eudora for both Windows and Macintosh.

Once Eudora is installed and running, goto the [TOOLS] menu and select [OPTIONS].

Next select [GETTING STARTED]

The POP account is your staff/student number @the server name which should be anumail.anu.edu.au (You may remember it as pophost.anu.edu.au or several other names.)
Next type in your name as you would like it to appear in your e-mails (Normally Firstname Lastname).
The Return address will normally be firstname.lastname@anu.edu.au.

If you need to make alterations to any of your e-mail. details, simply delete the existing text and type in the new information.

Next select [PERSONAL INFO]

You should see your details already typed in here. If not enter them as they are in the [GETTING STARTED] section.

Now select [HOSTS]

The POP account details should already be filled in. Where it reads SMTP, type in 'anumail.anu.edu.au' as it appears in the above image.

Now choose [CHECKING MAIL]

Once again the POP account info should be has you have already typed it. In this screen you can choose if you want your password saved by Eudora. You will only need to enter your password once and Eudora will remember it from that point. However if you change your password then you will need to untick this box, check your mail with your new password and then you can re-tick this box so it will remember your new password.

You can also tell Eudora to leave a copy of your mail on the server so it can be read at another location later on (i.e. home) in which case you have the option of deciding how long you want the mail to remain on the server before it gets deleted, and if you want the mail deleted from the server when you delete it in Eudora.

Now select [SENDING MAIL]

You should find that the required info is already typed in like the above.

That is all the information that you require in order to get Eudora to check ANU e-mail. All the other setting are optional, only change them if you feel confident in doing so.

NOTE: Although the new ANU mail server features virus checking, this does not mean that your machine will be protected from all viruses so please keep your regular Anti-Virus software up-to-date. If your machine is located in the department and has the new eTrust anti-virus installed on it then updates happen automatically every four hours otherwise it will need to be updated manually.

Happy Emailing.
