To create a dial up networking connection to the Chemistry network.


Double click on My Computer.


From here double click on Dial Up networking to create a new automatic connection dialog.




From here follow the instructions to locate your modem.


The name for the computer you are dialling is your choice.


The phone number is as below:



Then click finish on the next screen to finish up. The Dial up networking screen will now have your new connection as a new icon.



To finish the installation you need to set up some final TCP/IP settings and add a script to the icon so that it will automatically complete the login for you after you have dialled in to the Chemistry system. To do this right mouse click on the new connection icon. and choose the properties option.




This will bring up the following screen



Click on the Server types tag.



untick the NetBeui and IPX/SPX boxes, and click on the TCP/IP settings.



Fill in the TCP/IP details as below:



Choose OK and then the scripting tab.



Click on the Browse button to choose one of the standard scripts - we will need to make a few minor changes - detailed below.


Click on open, then on the next screen shoose Edit to edit the script.



Find the string

string szConnect = "3^M"

edit this to read

string szConnect = "ppp^M"

ie change 3 to ppp.


We also need to delete a section of script near the end, The text highlighted below needs to be removed.



Save and exit the editor.



The final step is to set the gateway settings in your network settings.


To do this double click on My Computer and select Control Panel



Choose Network and double click.




select TCP/IP for the dial up adapter and double click



Say OK for the warning, and click on the gateway tab. Type in the details below and click on the Add button.





Click on OK a couple of times and you are all finished.


To dial in to the network double click on your new dial up networking icon and put in your user name and password (tick the box so Windows remembers your password). Then click on Connect and all should be OK.
