In 2017 RSC will celebrate its fifty year anniversary. RSC was established with the intention to provide a ‘centre of excellence’ equipped to the most modern standards, and competitive to any centre in Europe or the United States.
From the outset the School was concerned not only with the results of pure research, but in providing a very advanced training ground to equip students for further research or to work in research institutes or industry. The school developed a strong emphasis on inorganic chemistry, on substances of biological interest (insect chemistry, antibiotic chemistry, plant chemistry), on synthetic chemistry which could be applied in many directions, and on aspect of solid-state chemistry and photochemistry.
Fifty years later and RSC has proved its excellence as a research and teaching institution. Now we move to the next stage of our history. In late 2013, RSC entered a new era with its move from its four buildings into a new, large $90 million building with state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment and facilities. This new phase in the RSC’s history will ensure the School’s continued output of world-leading research and teaching activities across the broad spectrum of chemistry.
In 2017 we plan to celebrate the fifty years of our school. Our anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved, take stock of where we are, and to look forward to the next fifty years.
The school will be running events across the year and you are all invited. Our achievements would not have occurred without you, our esteemed alumni, and we would love to celebrate together.
