Cristóbal obtained the degree of Industrial Chemist/BSc. in Chemistry (2014) at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), Chile, with distinction. After graduating, he continued working as a research assistant for Professor A. H. Klahn in the Organometallic Chemistry laboratory at PUCV (2014-2015), where he studied different CpRe(CO)3 and ferrocene based compounds for the treatment of tuberculosis. During this time, Cristóbal co-founded a surf wax company and an energy storage start-up with funding from the Chilean Government. His increasing passion for the field of materials and organometallic chemistry motivated him to pursue a PhD in Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Mark Humphrey. Currently, Cristóbal is exploring the area of organometallic-hybrid materials for optical limiting. His PhD project involves the usage of linear and dendritic molecules for tuning the nonlinear optical properties of nanomaterials. His interests focus on nonlinear optics, microscopy, nanomaterials and, organic and organometallic synthesis.
