Catalyst of the month: LiNTf2

Molecule of the Month July

Pulsed Laser Polymerization studies have demonstrated that LiNTf2 catalyses propagation in the radical polymerisation of methyl methacrylate (MMA). Theoretical calculations reveal that catalysis arises from monomer activation, occurring at the expense of tacticity regulation. Propagation catalysts can be used to improve molecular weight control and suppress chain-branching.
