Development of novel anion recognition motifs

Anions fulfill vital roles in a range of environmental and biological processes, yet chemists have still not developed synthetic receptors to reliably bind and control the movement of these species.  We are interested in exploring new ways to complex anions, whether through new hydrogen bonding motifs, or other less-explored interactions such as halogen bonding.  Ideally, receptors incorporating these new anion recognition motifs will be easy to synthesize, and will function in aqueous media.
