Why Study Chemistry?

Chemistry forms the basis for technological advances in all areas of life, from developing new drugs, to improving food production, building new materials like plastics, to understanding the basic building blocks of life. The study of matter, right down to the level of the atom, underpins all other sciences, from astronomy to zoology.

A sound basis in chemistry opens up a wealth of opportunities. Chemistry graduates are highly sought after for a range of careers, not only in research institutions, but also in industry, commerce, management, teaching, information technology and medicine.

RSC graduates often travel the world on postdoctoral fellowships, gaining international experience to enhance the training they received at the RSC. There is not a chemistry department at any Australian university that does not have someone who was either a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow at the RSC.
