The discovery of antibiotics produced by fungi was the foundation for the antibiotic era and many of the pharmaceuticals used today originate from chemicals produced by fungi.  Instead of a random screeing approach to discovery, in recent years we have worked with communities in Papua New Guinea and in collaboration with them are learning from their traditional knowledge, examining the chemical constituents of macrofungi (mushrooms) that are utilised by them.
