Through novel approaches at the interface of Synthetic Biology and chemistry we seek to create real-world solutions to some of the most pressing issues: Global HealthBiosecurityChemical & Energy Sustainability

More specifically, using the principles of synthetic biology we design and build low-cost biocatalytic assemblies that may carry out complex reaction cascades with diverse applications.

Areas of particular focus are:

  • the sustainable conversion of renewable feedstock and pollutants (CO2, aqueous nitrogen waste) into fuels and chemicals through new multi-enzymatic routes, and
  • the production of synthetic biological diagnostic devices for the detection of human, animal and plant pathogens, suitable for use in low-tech settings and in the developing world.
