About
Projects in the Colebatch group broadly involve designing homogeneous metal catalysts that utilise molecular cooperativity. The term “cooperativity” is used to describe the way that multiple chemical entities can work together to achieve a particular chemical outcome, such as the use of multimetallic catalytic active sites and the use of bifunctional ligands. Our work involves the synthesis of ligands and their transition metal complexes, and studying their reactivity and catalytic behaviour. We use an array of analytical techniques including NMR spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electrochemistry and X-ray crystallography.
