Analytical Chemistry and Sensors

Analytical chemistry and the development of sensors are two closely related fields of chemistry that are focused on the identification and quantification of molecules within complex samples. They are of increasing importance in healthcare and industry. Analytical chemistry involves the use of separation and detection, particularly using robotics and techniques such as mass spectrometry, to identify and quantify molecules, whereas sensors are developed to specifically bind to and detect certain molecules and provide a signal, which could take many forms (fluorescence, electrical, mechanical, etc.)
