A recent article in The Conversation, “Australia needs more people who think like scientists. Here's what that means,” makes the case that scientific thinking has value well beyond the research lab. It is written by Brian Yates, Emeritus Professor at the University of Tasmania, and Nathan Kilah, Associate Professor in Chemistry at the University of Tasmania.

The article explores how scientific training develops skills in reasoning and evaluating evidence that can be valuable across a wide range of careers.

To illustrate this, the authors follow a fictional character called “Hannah”, whose career story is based on the real career of Professor Alison Rodger, Director of the ANU Research School of Chemistry.
