About

Suitable for ASC / CHEM3060 / Honours / Masters students

Are you fascinated by materials containing multiple elements working together in a single structure? Join our team to explore high-entropy materials, an emerging class of multicomponent materials with enormous compositional space and highly tunable chemical and electronic properties. In this Honours/Master project, you will design and synthesize high-entropy materials such as high-entropy oxides, sulfides, alloys and other multicomponent compounds for applications in energy conversion and storage. You will investigate how elemental composition, local atomic environments, defects and phase structure influence their physical, chemical and electrochemical properties. Depending on the project, these materials may be explored as catalysts, electrocatalysts or electrode materials for reactions and devices including hydrogen production, carbon dioxide conversion and rechargeable batteries. You will gain experience in materials synthesis, structural and spectroscopic characterization, electrochemistry and data analysis, while learning how the vast compositional space of high-entropy materials can be used to discover new functionalities.
