About
Potassium-ion batteries are a new battery technology that aims to replace and complement currently dominant lithium-ion batteries in many applications. It is based on abundant chemical elements and avoids the use of lithium, nickel and cobalt. Early results indicate that there is a scope to create high voltage batteries with attractive characteristics using this alternative battery chemistry. In order to enable potassium-ion batteries, identification and optimisation of their electrode materials is paramount. This project will focus on the discovery of new electrode materials, exploration of the electrochemical mechanisms of their reactivity with potassium and optimization of the electrode behavior.
