About

Suitable for ASC / CHEM3060 / Honours / Masters students

Are you interested in developing next-generation batteries beyond conventional lithium-ion systems? Join our team to explore proton batteries, an emerging energy-storage technology that uses protons (H⁺) as charge carriers and offers opportunities for fast ion transport, safe operation and sustainable materials design. In this Honours/Master project, you will investigate electrode materials, electrolytes and electrode–electrolyte interfaces for efficient proton storage and transport. Depending on your interests, the project may involve designing new proton-storage materials, understanding proton-coupled redox mechanisms, optimizing aqueous or solid-state electrolytes, and developing flexible or wearable proton battery devices. You will gain experience in materials synthesis and characterization, electrochemical measurements and battery testing, while learning how materials chemistry, interfaces and device engineering work together to control battery performance.
