From Nuclear Physics to Science Policy - How Researchers Can Impact Government Decision Making
In this talk, I will explain my pathway from a nuclear physics PhD to working at the science policy interface at the Australian Academy of Science. I will outline what science policy is, what role the Australian Academy of Science plays, and how researchers can get involved in science policy work and influence government decisions. This talk will also include a brief overview of the current policies and frameworks that are in place in our research and development system, and how these can be improved.
Ben completed his PhD in nuclear physics at ANU in 2023 and is now a Policy Analyst at the Australian Academy of Science. Ben has worked on a range of policy issues, including PFAS contamination, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and data, and nuclear science.
