Household Energy Use and Investment
An interactive presentation that explains the energy system in Australia and its impact on household electricity bills. Topics that will be discussed:
- Types of people: electricity users who don’t pay for it, consumers who do pay for it, and prosumers who sell as well as buy (eg using rooftop solar, home battery, electric vehicles)
- How the pricing structure is set: producers and the national authority (AEMO), wholesalers, and retailers
- How current and impending grid crisis situations are flagged by the AEMO
- Retailer electricity plans and the items than can be in them (ie, how to read your electricity bill)
- Solar PV installation and operation
- Home battery installation and operation (overlapping with electric vehicles)
The presentation only describes the present situation and does not advocate for future changes in government strategies, but it does provide basic information needed to understand issues being discussed in the current federal election campaign.
Attendees will need to bring:
- Mobile phone to view and interact with the presentation
- A recent electricity bill (optional)
