About

The use and production of petrochemically sourced polymers is environmentally unsustainable and need to be phased out. This project aims to develop new material that is fully recyclable and/or compostable at end-of-life. The material is made from biomass-derived feedstocks and is prepared using an energy-efficient process. Importantly, the patented material has good mechanical properties, making it useful for industrial applications. The primary goal of this project is to develop a high performance polyurethane foams and/or expanded polystyrene replacements. This project will involve aspects of organic and polymer chemistry leading to sustainable and recyclable plastics.
