About

Hybrid materials (those formed from the combination of two different materials) have attracted increasing attention due to their promise for technological applications in photovoltaics, energy storage, catalysis, sensors, imaging, and medicine. There have been a significant number of reports of hybrids of organic molecules with nanomaterials, but far fewer studies of transition metal complex hybrids. We have prepared unique metal alkynyl complex hybrids with nanocarbons and nanoparticles (NPs); the figure shows a model of a 2.5 nm diameter AuNP stabilized by five organometallic dendrimers recently reported by our group. This project will involve the synthesis and characterization of new hybrid materials at the interface between organometallic chemistry and nanoscience.
